You’re Not Meant to Carry Everything Alone

Oftentimes, emotional pain becomes so heavy that it can feel impossible to imagine things getting better.

You may be exhausted from trying to keep going. You may feel disconnected from the people around you, even when you're not physically alone.

And sometimes, you may find yourself thinking, “I don't want to be here anymore.” If you've ever felt this way, please know that having those thoughts doesn't mean you're weak, broken, or beyond help.

It means you're hurting. And you deserve support while you're hurting.

You don't have to explain everything when you're struggling deeply, reaching out can feel incredibly difficult.

You might not know what to say.

You might worry that someone won't understand.

You might even convince yourself that other people have bigger problems and that you should just handle yours on your own.

You don't have to have the right words.

You can simply say:

“I'm not doing okay.”

“I've been having a really hard time lately.”

“I don't want to be alone right now.”

Sometimes, that's enough to begin the conversation.

When you're in the middle of emotional pain, it can be difficult to imagine anything different. The future may feel empty. Problems may feel permanent. Hope may seem like something meant for other people. But feelings can change, even when they don't feel like they will.

You don't have to solve your entire life today.

You only have to focus on getting through this moment, and then the next one.

Please Let Someone In

If you're struggling with thoughts of suicide or feeling like you don't want to be here, please don't stay alone with those feelings.

Reach out to someone you trust. It could be a friend, family member, therapist, doctor, crisis counselor, or another person who can help you stay safe.

You don't have to wait until things become unbearable before asking for help. And asking for help isn't giving up.

It's choosing to stay.

Maybe you can't see it right now. Maybe you don't know what the next chapter looks like. That's okay.

You don't need to have hope for the rest of your life today. Sometimes, you just need enough hope to take the next step.

If you're struggling, please remember:

You matter.

Your pain matters.

And you don't have to carry it alone.
